To get the creative juices flowing, one morning was tasked to the design of a self promotional logo for a famous character. Choices included such figures as Adolf Hitler, Lady GaGa, Doctor Who, Mary Berry…
I settled on a personal hero of Surrealist art, Salvador Dali as my choice to create a proposed logo identity for, as I was already very familiar with his work and background.
No doubt any artist enthusiast has heard of him, and may note his iconic melting clocks, disfigured human bodies, and elephants with exceedingly long skinny legs.
I aimed to keep with the ‘recognisable’ theme as the logo is a representation of him. I pulled key elements from his paintings and played with aesthetics in accordance with his name. Examples of these ideas are seen below.

After contemplating this imagery, I settled on digitally creating the final proposed logo of the morning: The name is presented in the form of Dali’s own signature, with his notable elephant legs growing out the bottom of it, which stands atop his well-known wacky moustache.

Creating this imagery was playful and amusing, yet useful to get me thinking about artist identity, reminding me that it would be beneficial for all artists to do this for themselves to help distinguish a self identity and personal visual language.
Even if you are not an artist, I would recommend giving this exercise a go to kick your creative mind into gear, to reflect on your own identity, and to see how much more your mind opens up for the rest of the day!
